Introduction to Craft Ale Brewing Theory

180.00 per person

Please note this is a one day detailed theory course 

(No practical brewing).

Delegates are required to bring a calculator, pen and notepad on the day.

All delegates receive a copy of the course notes.

9.30am (prompt start so please arrive by 9.20am) - 5.00pm (approx.)

Content for the day includes:

  • Section 1 - Barley & Malting Process - From grain to end products.
  • Section 2 - Liquor & mash treatments Calculation of acid for alkalinity removal & salt additions (Burtonisation)
  • Section 3 - Mashing & Sparging Control and key parameters (density, temperature and pH).

(Approx.12.30pm - 1 hour break. NB OnlyTea & Coffee provided throughout the day)

  • Section 4 - Boiling - Some chemistry in the copper/kettle
  • Section 5 - Hops Details on alpha acids and essential oils, calculation of bittering levels plus late/dry hopping regimes.
  • Section 6 - Yeast metabolism/fermentation - From sugar to alcohol. 
  • Section 7 - Overview of fining & maturation Guidelines on copper, adjunct/auxiliary and cask finings.
