Introduction to Craft Ale Brewing Theory

150.00 per person

Please note this is a one day detailed theory course (No practical brewing).

Delegates are required to bring a calculator, pen and notepad on the day.

Due to costs the courses will only run if minimum number of 4 delegates are booked

9.30am (prompt start so please arrive by 9.20am) - 5.00pm (approx.)

Content for the day includes:

  • Section 1 - Barley & Malting Process - From grain to end products.
  • Section 2 - Liquor & mash treatments Calculation of acid for alkalinity removal & salt additions.
  • Section 3 - Mashing & Sparging Control and key parameters (density, temperature and pH).

(Approx.12.30pm - Light lunch)

  • Section 4 - Boiling - The chemistry of the copper.
  • Section 5 - Hops Details on alpha acids and essential oils, calculation of bittering levels and late hopping regimes.
  • Section 6 - Basic Yeast metabolism/fermentation - From sugar to alcohol.
  • Section 7 Overview of fining & maturation Guidelines on copper, adjunct/auxiliary and cask finings. 
  • Final Q&A
